We’ve all experienced pain in some form or another and it’s never fun but imagine for a moment if you couldn’t feel any pain at all?  What might that do for you?  Maybe you’d be emboldened to try a bunch of really risky things you’d always wanted to try - like skateboarding down a flight of stairs?   But if you couldn’t feel pain - how would you learn to be careful and avoid injury?   We recognize that to feel pain is a good thing even if its primary benefit comes from learning to avoid it  and it’s hard for any of us to understand something that we can’t experience.

This week we’re looking at the idea that God Can’t Suffer - and saying that probably raises some questions for us.  Like, if God can’t suffer then does that mean He can’t understand our pain?  If He doesn’t know what it’s like to suffer then can he really care about my situation or yours?

Spoiler alert - we’ll see that God is compassionate but His response to our needs doesn’t come from a momentary emotional passion, rather it flows as an ongoing expression of His nature.
