There really is no character more unlikely to be at the centre of the amazing Christmas story than Mary. She wasn’t looking to make a name for herself - she was just like every other peasant girl in town - looking just to survive. Respectfully, she was an insignificant girl in a nothing town in the middle of nowhere.
Then the curtain rises on the opening act of the greatest story in all human history ... and Mary is asked to play a role she would literally never have dreamed of ... giving birth to the son of Almighty God!
The writer Luke records a lot about Mary’s response and perhaps that's because he wanted us to see an example of what honest faith - full of doubts and questions is all about and see that Mary’s "how can this be?" question is also our question.
