It’s easy to think that idols are bad things and therefore we’ll easily see and avoid them. The problem is idols are rarely bad things - most often they are good things. The greater their good - the more we are inclined to think they will satisfy our deepest needs and hopes and so we make them ultimate things - we make them an idol. It’s what happens when we seek anything to give us what only God can give - it becomes an idol, a “me-god."
This week we’ll look at three metaphors that the bible uses to show how people relate to heart idols - we love, trust and obey them - and contrast that with the grace of God through Jesus who seeks us and fulfills us and though we fail Him - forgives us.
